Wal-Mart Hitting January Target

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (Bentonville, Ark.) said sales so far this month have met its forecast for a same-store sales gain of as much as 5 percent.

Target Corp. (Minneapolis) said sales for the month to date were slightly below forecast after sales last week did not meet its plan for a 4-6 percent gain.
