Walmart (Bentonville, AR) is laying off 200 corporate employees, the latest indicator of a softening job market and a slowing American economy, The Washington Post reports.

In a statement, the retailer said it would invest more in e-commerce, technology, supply chain and new roles in services for customers and suppliers. The company did not disclose which divisions are impacted by the cuts.

Walmart, according to the article, joins Apple and Meta among big companies that are putting the brakes on hiring plans as fears of a recession loom. Additionally, 7-Eleven recently laid off nearly 900 corporate workers, Ford is planning to slash 8000 jobs, mortgage lender LoanDepot is cutting 4800 jobs and delivery startup Gopuff is shedding 1500 workers.
