Zhangzhou’s Control Bar Invites You to a Galaxy Far Away

Futuristic whiskey bar greets patrons with an out-of-this-world aesthetic

CONTROL BAR IN Zhangzhou, China, aims to break free of all traditional whiskey bar design by placing patrons in a striking cyberpunk vision of the future.

Design firm Panda Nana throws around words like “rough,” “avant-garde” and “fearlessness” in its description of the bar, and none of those phrases seem out of place. A “twisted network” on the façade continues inside, as the space continues to use bold lines, colors and shifting lights to dramatic effect.

Custom installations include an astronaut and a number of “unborn human beings,” presenting an entirely futuristic vision (shown here behind the main bar) — but there’s also enough ambiguity to let the mind wander when it comes to what backstory such a location might have.

The bar itself is like something you’d see in a galaxy far, far away, as if you stopped in for a drink while hopping around the Outer Rim, tracking an intergalactic bounty hunter.
