24-Hour L.L. Bean Flagship Temporarily Closes

L.L. Bean (Freeport, Maine) will be temporarily closing its flagship store in Freeport, Maine for the memorial service of the company’s former President and Chairman, Leon Gorman. Gorman retired from the company in 2013 after leading it for 35 years. He is also the grandson of the company’s founder.

The store, which is typically open 24 hours a day year-round, will be closed for a half-day on Sept. 13. In the past, the flagship has voluntarily closed twice, for the deaths of founder L.L. Bean and President John F. Kennedy.

Gorman died at age 80 on Thursday, September 3, reports USA Today
