A for Apple

Stater Bros. Markets (Colton, Calif.) plans to build a new and modern full-service supermarket in Southern California in Apple Valley, Calif., as part of the new 25-acre Apple Valley Towne Center.

The 44,000 square-foot supermarket is expected to open in December and will be constructed by Stater Bros. Development, which serves as the general contractor for Stater Bros. Markets.

Features will include full-service meat, seafood and deli departments; a hot bakery; expanded produce department; pharmacy; and Arrowhead Credit Union. Among the design features will be energy-efficient skylights to incorporate the use of daylighting, as well as minimize environmental impact.

“I am very proud to bring this newest and most modern full-service Stater Bros. Supermarket to Apple Valley,” said Jack Brown, Stater Bros. chairman and ceo.

The supermarket chain also announced plans to open three additional full-service supermarkets in Adelanto, Fontana and French Valley, Calif., bringing Stater’s total number of new stores in 2005 to five.

The company was founded in 1936 in Yucaipa, Calif., and has become the largest privately owned supermarket chain in Southern California, with annual sales in 2004 of $3.7 billion. It currently operates 161 supermarkets.
