A Ford on Rodeo Drive

Tom Ford, soon to retire as creative director at Gucci Group (Milan), has received the Rodeo Drive Walk of Style Award, which includes a permanent plaque on Beverly Hills’ famous shopping street.

The plaque is inscribed with Ford’s words: “Beauty is a powerful thing. It can add enormously to the quality of life.”

Ford, who has been rumored to be heading for movies — as an actor or director — once his Gucci contract is up in April, has signed with Creative Artists Agency.

“Tom Ford is quite natural for this,” said Peri Ellen Berne, chairwoman of the Rodeo Drive Walk of Style Committee. “We honor those whose contributions to fashion and Hollywood are parallel. This is indicative of Tom Ford’s impact on the industry.”

Berne says selecting Ford had nothing to do with his departure from Gucci or the industry. But, she adds, “We’re thrilled that we can pay tribute to him in our own special way.”
