Alberstons Bids on Haggen Stores

Albertsons (Boise, Idaho) has entered a bid to purchase some of the grocery stores that Haggen (Bellingham, Wash.) has put up for auction in the wake of its bankruptcy.

Last year, Albertson sold 146 of its own stores to Haggen, and now the retailer is the “baseline bidder” for 36 of the 95 stores Haggen is looking to sell.

The stores Albertsons is bidding on include locations throughout Washington, Oregon and down through Arizona.

The auction will take place next week, and Albertson’s starting bid for one store is for $1 while another store is starting at $1.7 million, reports The Seattle Times. Albertsons is among 40 bidders who will be participating in the auction.
