BUSINESS BRIEFS:
J.C. Penney (Plano, Texas) has become the first retailer to earn an Energy Star Award for Sustained Excellence in Energy Management from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. During the past six years, Penney has invested more than $100 million to install energy management technology, lighting retrofits and high-efficiency heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems in its stores.
Canadian Tire (Toronto), a general merchandise and apparel retailer, has been testing sales of a limited selection of grocery items at two of its stores in Canada, and plans to expand that experimental program to two more stores this spring.
