Amazon to Open up to 2000 Grocery Stores in 10 Years

Amazon (Seattle) is planning to open up to 2000 brick-and-mortar grocery stores over the next 10 years, reports Cincinnati Business Courier.

The bulk of Amazon’s stores, however, are expected to operate more like convenience stores and are expected to debut in large cities, such as Seattle, Las Vegas, New York, Miami and San Francisco. Initially the company expects to open up to 200 stores a year for a decade if the pilot programs are successful.

The company also plans to open 20 Amazon Fresh stores over the next two years. These stores will utilize two different models: One plan includes opening 10,000-square-foot stores that are pick-up spots for online orders. The second plan will operate as small traditional grocery stores of up to 30,000 square feet in size where customers can select their own items.
