Amazon Announces the Opening of ’Amazon Go’

Amazon (Seattle) has announced plans to open its latest concept, Amazon Go, a grocery store, in Seattle.

Instead of a traditional checkout, Amazon Go shoppers will use an app to automatically fill their “carts” and make purchases, using "just walk out" technology — a combination of "computer vision, sensor fusion and deep learning," reports the company. The store is currently only open in beta format to Amazon employees but will open to the public in early 2017.

With a focus on convenience, the 1800-square-foot store sells basics such as bread, milk, protein and produce, as well as ready-to-eat meals cooked by an on-site chef.
