Amazon Puts Freeze on Corporate Hiring for Retail Vertical

Amazon (Seattle) is putting a freeze on hiring corporate positions for its retail business, reports CNBC and The New York Times. The online behemoth reportedly instructed its recruiters to close any open job postings related to the retail roles and to cancel any upcoming recruitment activities.

Amazon spokesperson Brad Glasser says, “We have many different businesses at various stages of evolution, and we expect to keep adjusting our hiring strategies in each of these businesses at various junctures.”

Though the company saw unprecedented growth during the Covid pandemic, e-commerce spending has begun to slow in 2022.

In recent months, Amazon has cancelled the opening of several new facilities, and has closed many of its U.S. call centers. During the second quarter of this year, it let go of 99,000 employees.
