American Apparel Shutters Flagship

American Apparel Inc. (Los Angeles) will be closing its original U.S. flagship store in downtown Los Angeles on Sunset Boulevard in Echo Park. The store closure is part of the company’s efforts to turn business around by eliminating underperforming locations.

The company has not officially released details about when the store will close, but the Los Angeles Times reports employees have been told Jan. 8 will be the store’s last day. It has been listed to be leased.

According to The Los Angeles Business Journal, the Echo Park location opened in 2003 and was the company’s first store in the U.S., and its second retail store globally, after the brand's first location in Montreal.
