American Dream Sets Date for Luxury Wing

American Dream, the New Jersey-based megamall, announced its plans to open its long-awaited luxury wing called The Avenue (formerly referred to as The Collection) this September 17 and will coincide with the end of New York City Fashion Week, NJ.com reports. Once complete, the wing will house 80 storefronts, but upon opening, 20 stores (or 25 percent) of the wing will be occupied.

Saks Fifth Avenue, Tiffany & Co., Hermes, Jonathan Adler and Dolce & Gabbana are among some of the retailers planning to open in the wing. Barneys was supposed to take up roughly 50,000 square feet of The Avenue before it went bankrupt; the retailers planning to open Sept. 17 will occupy 80,000 square feet.

Beyond its double-height storefronts, skylights, gardens and live fish, a Ferris wheel – previously said to provide views of the New York City skyline – may open either a few days before or after The Avenue, according to Ken Downing, Chief Creative Officer, American Dream, though the specifics have not yet been released.

About 80 percent of the 3.3-million-square-foot structure is currently open to the public.
