American Eagle Gets New Leader

American Eagle Outfitters (Pittsburgh) appointed Robert Hanson ceo, effective Jan. 30, 2012. Hanson, who most recently served as global president of the Levi’s brand, will succeed James O’Donnell, who has led the retailer since 2002, according to Women’s Wear Daily.

“After an extensive search, we believe Robert is the ideal person to build on AEO’s strengths, maximize our portfolio of brands across North America and propel our brands into new markets across the world,” Jay Schottenstein, chairman of American Eagle, told WWD. “He brings extensive experience in the apparel industry and global brand positioning.”

O’Donnell informed the board of his departure in March but agreed to stay on until a successor was named.

American Eagle operates nearly 1000 stores in the U.S. and Canada.
