And the Oscar Goes to Manhasset

Oscar de la Renta Ltd. (New York) has announced plans for a new store at the prestigious Americana Manhasset on New York’s suburban Long Island. The 2100-square-foot boutique is set to open in July 2005.

“As one of the premier shopping destinations in the United States, Americana Manhasset is an ideal location for an Oscar de la Renta boutique,” said ceo Alexander Bolen. “Our strategy is to open stores in high-profile, high-traffic luxury shopping areas with affluent local customers and tourists. Americana Manhasset fits this strategy well.”

The open-air shopping center on Long Island’s north shore includes such tenants as Prada, Giorgio Armani, Fendi, Escada, Hermes, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Burberry, Ralph Lauren, Donna Karan, Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, Bottega Veneta, Dior, St. John, Coach, Brooks Brothers, Ellen Tracy, Cartier, David Yurman and Van Cleef & Arpels.

The architecture firm of Meyer Davis Studio Inc. (New York), which designed Oscar de la Renta’s boutique, will design the Manhasset store, incorporating elements of the previous Oscar de la Renta stores, including clean lines, coral stone and signature plaster palm trees. A glass and bronze façade will be consistent with the center’s modern look as designed by Peter Marino.

Oscar de la Renta opened its first freestanding boutique on Madison Avenue in New York. Since then, it has opened at the Bal Harbour (Fla.) Shops and Wynn Las Vegas.
