Best Buy Co. Inc. (Richfield, Minn.), the leading consumer electronics retailer in the country, has been named the VM+SD/Peter Glen Retailer of the Year for 2007.
The company will be honored at the International Retail Design Conference in September, in Atlanta. James Damian, Best Buy’s senior vp, experience development group, will accept the award and talk about how Best Buy thrives by paying attention to the store environment and the customer service component.
Peter Glen, an industry spokesman and critic and long-time VM+SD columnist, died in 2001 and the award was established in his name. Glen was a fierce proponent of smart retailing, knowing your market position and your target customer’s needs. Previous Peter Glen winners have been: Target Corp. (Minneapolis) in 2001; Limited Brands (Columbus, Ohio) in 2002; Apple Computer (Cupertino, Calif.) in 2003; Neiman Marcus Group (Dallas) in 2004; Federated Department Stores (Cincinnati) in 2005; and Nordstrom (Seattle) in 2006.
