Bigg’s President Resigns

Steve Kaczynski, who has served as the head of Bigg’s grocery store since 2006, is retiring to pursue other interests. The 11-store grocery chain has appointed Jimmy Nichols, vp, merchandising, to succeed Kaczynski. Nichols, who has 25 years experience in the grocery industry, has held previous positions in marketing and category management at SuperValu, the Minneapolis-based parent company of Bigg’s.

During his tenure, Kaczynski oversaw the rollout of Bigg’s newer concept of smaller, more gourmet-focused stores. When the chain debuted in 1984, specializing in both grocery and general merchandise, it featured a cost-conscious, hypermarket format. The chain operates 11 locations in the Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky markets.

Kaczynski has worked in the grocery sector since 1970. Prior to joining Bigg’s, he held posts with Wild Oats and Giant Food Stores Inc.
