Birmingham McRae's to Become Parisian

Saks Inc. (Birmingham, Ala.) has announced plans to convert its 108,800-square-foot McRae's store in Birmingham's Brookwood Village Mall into a Parisian specialty department store. The McRae's store will be closed in July 2002, spend a month in renovation and reopen as a Parisian store in August 2002.

It will be the sixth Parisian store in the city that is Saks'corporate headquarters town and was the headquarters town for Parisian before it was incorporated into the Saks family in 1997. There will be three stores remaining in Birmingham for McRae's, which is also one of the Saks nameplates.

“We believe the interests of our customers and of our company are best served by converting (that) McRae's traditional department store into a Parisian specialty department store location,” said George Jones, president and ceo of Saks Department Store Group. “We are confident that the merchandise selection, customer service and store amenities found at Parisian will be a great complement to the newly renovated mall.”

Parisian's cultivated image is one of high levels of personalized service, high-concept store design and a higher level of merchandise and brand names.
