Federated Department Stores Inc. (Cincinnati) opened its new Bloomingdale’s store in San Francisco last week. At 330,000-square-feet over five levels, it is the largest Bloomingdale’s store in the nation other than the New York flagship store on 59th Street and Lexington Avenue.
The store anchors the Westfield San Francisco Centre at Market and Fifth streets.
“This is the most important store we’ve opened as a company,” enthused Bloomingdale’s chairman and ceo Michael Gould, calling it “a seminal moment in Bloomingdale’s history.”
The Westfield San Francisco Centre integrates the former Emporium department store building, which opened in 1896 and was rebuilt following the 1906 San Francisco earthquake.
