Brooks Bros. to Open Madison Ave. Steakhouse

Brooks Brothers, the New York-based division of Retail Brand Alliance Inc. (Enfield, Conn.), will be opening a steakhouse around the corner from its Madison Avenue flagship.

The New York Post reported that the restaurant, on East 44th Street, will be called Makers and Merchants. It will occupy the three-level, 15,000-square-foot space Brooks Brothers took over from J. Press in 2008 and had been using for its women’s line. It’s now vacant.

A Brooks Brothers spokesman told the Post the company was “looking at summer 2014,” though the newspaper could find no plans on record yet with the New York Buildings Dept., nor a liquor application with the State Liquor Authority.
