Cannibal Lechters

Lechters, Inc. (Harrison, N.J.), the housewares retailer, announced a restructuring in which it will close 166 of its 490 stores, change its merchandising strategy to focus on high-quality kitchen products and renovate the surviving 324 stores. It will also launch a web site for online sales. Its full-price units include Lechters Housewares and Lechters Kitchen Place. It will be discontinuing its off-price chain, Cost Less Home Stores.
