1. POWER PLANT
By incorporating biophilic and nature-inspired design elements, customers are in for a taste of the wild as soon as they arrive. Plants frame the space and flower motifs complement custom wallpaper from artist James Jean to welcome guests into the sasquatch’s space.
2. HIDDEN FIGURE
A gold outline of the sasquatch made of custom-cut acrylic pops against the dark color of the wall. “You’re in a concrete jungle, but maybe for a few moments we can transport you to the forest, and it just so happens that this is where you’ll find our friendly sasquatch,” says Dan Brunn of Dan Brunn Architecture (Los Angeles), the firm behind the café’s design.
3. SET IN STONE
Glazed penny tiles comprise the floor, and though solid in color at first glance, a closer look will reveal an aquamarine tone, evoking images of precious stones. “There are so many textures, colors and materials all within a very small space, and I love how it all came together,” says Brunn.
4. FOR THE TREES
The use of walnut wood in the counter space and the seating area further emphasizes the café’s intended connection to nature – the dark wood grains also bring a feeling of warmth and comfort to the overall design.
5. CHASING WATERFALLS
The green waterfall countertop was cast in terrazzo, highlighted by the embedded iridescent accents. The mixture took months of revision before it could be cast, according to Brunn. The final effect is “resilient, timeless and has depth.”
