CompUSA (Dallas) has named advertising industry veteran Phil Jacobs as executive vp and chief marketing officer. Jacobs joins the computer equipment retailer from ad agency Publicis Mid America (a division of Publicis Groupe S.A., Paris), where he was executive vp and cmo.
In addition to managing marketing and communications functions at CompUSA, Jacobs will be tasked with strengthening the retail brand in preparation for renewed growth.
“Phil brings us a new dimension of experience and innovative thinking,” said CompUSA president and coo Tony Weiss. “His marketing successes and diverse background with consumer and business-to- business brands will help provide focus and fuel for our expansion into converging lines of business and consumer electronics retailing. We’re excited by Phil’s excellent strategic capabilities and feel certain his marketing leadership will generate momentum for our company’s growth.”
Jacobs, who has more than 20 years experience in retailing and marketing communications, has served in management roles at several of the nation’s top advertising agencies. At Publicis, he won such accounts as Denny’s, Bombay, Sara Lee brands and Curves. He has worked on such brands as BMW, Philips Consumer Electronics, Federal Express and Bombay Co.
He said, “demystifying and simplifying technology for consumers is the real challenge. We have the products, the knowledge and the system to literally bring the technology right to your home or business and install it. We will do a much better job of telling consumers why we’re their right choice.”
