Condé Nast (New York), the publisher of Vogue, GQ, Glamour and Women’s Wear Daily, has launched the Condé Nast College of Fashion and Design in London.
The school offers two courses: a one-year Vogue Fashion Foundation diploma and a 10-week Vogue Fashion certificate.
The 10-week course, with an inaugural class of 45 students, studies the history of fashion, important designers, fashion journalism, retail, business, marketing and public relations. Tuition is £6600, or $8500. It includes speakers from within the Condé Nast collection of titles and field trips to museums, design studios and manufacturers.
The one-year course will begin in October, with tuition at £19,560, or $29,730. It will focus on the history and influences on fashion design, fashion publishing and the fashion business. Students will leave with 30 credits certified by the Open College Network as the equivalent of a first undergraduate year and will then be able to finish their degrees at other fashion or design schools in Britain or elsewhere.
Susie Forbes, the college’s principal and a veteran Condé Nast editor, said the tuition would not buy students a job or even an internship at a Condé Nast publication. “We’re not a feeder school for Condé Nast,” she said. “Our editors and publishers don’t want to feel obliged to take our students.”
