Cornhuskers Welcome Home Depot

The Home Depot (Atlanta) will enter the Nebraska market for the first time this week, with a 117,00- square-foot store in Omaha. Two more Home Depot locations will open in the Greater Omaha area next year, one in Omaha and one in Council Bluffs.

The new Omaha store will offer free do-it-yourself clinics, including workshops on: how to lay ceramic tile; how to hang wallpaper; and how to install a ceiling fan. The store will also feature a design center offering in-store consulting; installation services, from garage doors to carpets and kitchen appliances; and a 16,000-square-foot garden center.

As part of the store's grand opening festivities, the retailer will present a $5,000 check to Boys and Girls Club of Omaha, $5,000 to Habitat for Humanity and $1,500 to the Douglas County (Neb.) sheriff's department to sponsor 10 children for their winter clothes drive. The Home Depot is widely recognized for its community commitment and a corporate culture with a $25 million philanthropic budget in 2000. It has been ranked for seven consecutive years by Fortune magazine as America's Most Admired Specialty Retailer.
