Crumbs Bake Shop Calls it Quits

Crumbs Bake Shop (New York), a national chain known for its large cupcakes, closed the doors of all 48 of its stores Monday, the Wall Street Journal reported.

The store notified employees Monday morning that all outlets would be closing for good at the end of the business day.

“Regrettably Crumbs has been forced to cease operations and is immediately attending to the dislocation of its devoted employees while it evaluates its limited remaining options,” the company said in a statement to the Wall Street Journal. Those options could include a bankruptcy filing, the spokeswoman said.

The statement did not site a specific reason for the abrupt, sweeping closures.
