Dick’s May Bid on Golfsmith Intl.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Dick’s Sporting Goods (Corapolis, Pa.) plans to enter a bid to purchase Golfsmith Intl. (Austin, Texas) at its upcoming auction. Dick’s owns and operates the Golf Galaxy retail chain. Other potential bidders include the former retailer’s competitors Worldwide Golf (Santa Ana, Calif.), Golf & Tennis Pro (Roswell, Ga.) as well as some liquidators.

The auction for the retailer’s assets will take place today and is being overseen by the bankruptcy court. Golfsmith International filed for bankruptcy protection last month. The chain was acquired in 2012 by Canada’s Golf Town (Concord, Ontario) for about $100 million.
