Dillard’s Closing Last Furniture Store

Dillard’s Inc., the Little Rock, Ark-based department store chain, is closing its final home and furniture store, located in Cincinnati at Harper’s Station, citing the location is not performing up to par.

Dillard’s spokeswoman Julie Bull said the store will close in mid to late April. The chain is working to place its roughly 30 workers in other area Dillard’s stores.

“We’ve been evaluating the store base over the past couple, three years, and we are closing underperforming locations,” Bull said.

The store is the last of 16 locations inherited by the chain when it acquired Fairfield-based Mercantile Stores Co. Inc. in 1998. At that time, it was called Signature stores. Dillard’s does offer furniture in some of its full-line stores.

“Most of the time if we are selling furniture it’s part of a large Dillard’s store,” Bull said.
