The Kroger Co. (Cincinnati) has announced an agreement to purchase four Cub Food stores in the Denver area from Supervalu Inc. (Eden Prairie, Minn.).
The transaction is expected to close in late November. Financial terms were not disclosed.
The four stores, which average approximately 66,000 square feet in size, are located in Arvada, Colo., Lakewood, Colo., Aurora, Colo., and Glendale, Colo.
The stores will become part of Kroger's King Soopers division, which currently operates 129 stores in Colorado under the King Soopers and City Market banners. The acquired stores will operate under the King Soopers banner following an extensive remodeling.

Supervalu operates more than 1400 stores in nearly 40 states, including price-oriented superstores such as Shoppers Food Warehouse, Cub Foods, Shop 'n Save and bigg's; extreme-value formats as Save-A-Lot; general merchandiser Deal$ – Nothing Over A Dollar; and about 60 supermarkets under the Farm Fresh, Scott's Foods, and Hornbachers banners.
