Dollar General Aims for 730 New Stores

After losing its bid to buy Family Dollar Stores to Dollar Tree, Dollar General (Goodlettsville, Tenn.) hopes to open 730 new stores in 2015, bolstering its current footprint of 11,789 stores across 40 states, reports Forbes.

To compare, Dollar Tree will have approximately 13,000 stores after it combines with Family Dollar.

Dollar General also announced Thursday that revenue rose 10 percent last quarter and revealed plans to return capital to shareholders.

“We are pleased with our fourth quarter results, which reflect accelerating same-store sales, and we intend to capitalize on that momentum as we move into 2015,” said ceo Rick Dreiling.
