Downtown Girl

Fashion retailer Jackie Rogers opened her new boutique last week on Little West 12th Street in New York's Meatpacking District.

The high-priced boutique replaces the Madison Avenue couture salon Rogers closed earlier this year.

The 700-square-foot shop, with red lacquered walls and hanging racks, uses pipes suspended from the ceiling to display slinky made-to-order evening dresses and silk organza separates that retail for $450 to $2500.

For the self-described “uptown lady going downtown,” this is said to be perhaps the brashest move in a 30-year fashion and retailing career. “The Meatpacking District is an evolving retail area,” a New York real estate broker told The New York Times. “For a Madison Avenue retailer, it isn't clear that it's a good fit.”
