Eyler 'R' Chairman

John Eyler, president and ceo of Toys 'R'Us (Paramus, N.J.), has added chairmanship of the retailer's board of directors to his titles. He replaces Michael Goldstein, who will remain a director.

“The entire board of Toys 'R'Us is very pleased with the changes being implemented under John Eyler's direction,” Goldstein said. “As a sign of our confidence in (his) leadership and strategic vision, we are delighted to announce that he will assume the additional title of chairman of the board effective today (June 6, 2001).”

Eyler came to Toys 'R'Us in January 2000. He had been chairman and ceo of rival toy retailer FAO Schwarz (New York). His retail career also includes stints as ceo of the retail subsidiary of Hartmarx (Chicago) and chairman and ceo MainStreet, a division of Federated Department Stores. He began his retail career at The May Department Stores Co., becoming president and ceo of the organization's May D&F in Denver at age 32.
