Former Family Dollar president and coo, Mike Bloom, will assume the same title at Fred’s Inc. (Memphis) next week. Fred’s operates 661 discount general merchandise stores in the Southeastern U.S., including 320 with pharmacies. It is speculated that Bloom will grow Fred’s beauty category, a successful and profitable strategy he employed at Family Dollar (Charlotte, N.C.).
Bloom is a 20-year veteran of CVS Caremark (Woonsocket, R.I.), where he held the title of executive vp of merchandising, marketing, advertising and supply chain, according to The Street.
