Rick Caruso, the renowned California shopping mall developer, will square off against Karen Bass this November in a runoff election for the mayorship of Los Angeles, Chain Store Age writes.
Caruso is running on a platform to solve Los Angeles’ growing homeless population and a promise to add 1500 police officers to the city’s force, pledging to not “let the dream of Los Angeles be extinguished,” the article says.
Both he and Bass are Democrats, though Caruso was an independent until switching party affiliations before the primary.
Caruso’s development projects in the Golden State include The Grove at Farmers Market, the Americana at Brand and the Commons at Calabasas, among other shopping centers.
The article says Caruso announced a succession plan earlier this year that would install Chief Development Office Corinne Verdery as the CEO should he win the election.
