Fifty-six New Dollars

Family Dollar Stores Inc., Matthews, N.C.-based discount store chain, has reported opening 56 new stores during the five-week period ended July 5, 2003. With these additional stores, the company now operates 4894 stores in 43 states.

The 56 newest stores include eight in Texas; four in Wisconsin; three each in Florida, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri and Ohio; two each in Arizona, Arkansas, Illinois, Maine, North Carolina, North Dakota, Tennessee and West Virginia; and one each in Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Mexico, New York, Utah, Virginia and Wyoming.
