Mergers and Acquisitions:
Federated Department Stores Inc. (Cincinnati) has signed an agreement to sell the Macy's store in the Warwick Mall to Warwick Mall LLC (Warwick, R.I., mall developer). The 36-year-old store, with 309,000 square feet of space, is a duplicate location Federated previously announced for divestiture as a result of its acquisition of The May Department Stores Co. The current Filene's store in Warwick Mall is being converted to Macy's, and Warwick Mall LLC is working on redevelopment plans for the former Macy's space.
Business Briefs:
Helius Inc. (Lindon, Utah, developer of distributed video solutions for business) announced that J.C. Penney (Plano, Texas) has selected its satellite- and terrestrial-based network solution to deliver corporate training to more than 150,000 employees throughout the U.S. and Puerto Rico.
Yorkdale Shopping Centre (Toronto) announced that construction has begun on a $42 million renovation. The upgrades follow a $60 million expansion completed last year at the center, which has more than 240 retail tenants.
Square One Shopping Centre (Mississauga, Ont.) has launched the second phase of its four-phase, $32 million renovation and expansion. The project will segment the 1.8 million-square-foot shopping center into distinct neighborhoods.
