Management Changes:

Cooper Industries Ltd. (Peachtree City, Ga., electronics products and hardware manufacturer) has appointed David Feldman as president of its Cooper Lighting division. Feldman, who will report to Kirk Hachigian, executive vp, operations, was most recently senior vp of Holcim.

MBH Architects (Alameda, Calif., architecture firm) has named Joseph Smart principal-in-charge of its Newport Beach office. He was formerly principal at the firm's Alameda office. Also, P.J. Cosgrove has been hired as vp, business development, for the corporation. He previously worked for Swinerton Builders.

Prellwitz/Chilinski Associates Inc. (PCA, Cambridge, Mass., architecture and interior design firm) has appointed David Galler vp and Eric Brown principal. Also, Wendy Prellwitz is has returned as design director.

bc design ltd. (Columbus, Ohio, design firm) has hired Steven Elbert as a partner.

Holophane (Newark, Ohio, lighting systems manufacturer) has named Robert Drago vp of sales for the eastern region of the U.S. and Jon Memsic vp of sales for the western region. Drago, who joined the company in 1992, most recently worked as regional sales manager for the northeast region, and Memsic, who joined the company in 1983, was regional sales manager for the north central region.

TRIAD Mfg. Inc. (St. Louis custom wood and metal fixture manufacturer) has added Darren Marty as senior account executive, responsible for developing new accounts.

Color Kinetics (Boston illumination technologies product manufacturer) has appointed Chris Davis as vp, North American sales, and Joop van Aard as vp, international sales. Davis most recently served as managing director and president, Asia Pacific operation, for Varta Batteries Private Ltd., and Van Aard was vp, Europe, Middle East and Africa for Juniper Networks.

nAL (Fort Wayne, Ind., formerly northAmerican Logistics, logistics services provider) has named Debbie Maupin vp, corporate sales.

ShopKo Stores Inc. (Green Bay, Wis., specialty discount stores) has promoted Kevin Easton to corporate executive vp and ShopKo division chief merchandising officer. Easton joined ShopKo in 2001 as senior vp and general merchandise manager-apparel.

Martin Professional (Frederikshavn, Denmark, lighting producer and distributor) has hired Dave Caulfield as managing director of its U.K. subsidiary. He replaces Claus Puggard, who stepped down last November.

Mergers/Acquisitions:

Madix Store Fixtures (Terrell, Texas, store fixture manufacturer) has acquired Spencer Products (North Brookfield, Mass., wire and specialty products manufacturer). Through the acquisition, Madix will enhance its product offerings, production capabilities and distribution channels and will operate manufacturing plants in Terrell, Texas, Goodwater, Ala., Eclectic, Ala., and North Brookfield, Mass.

Permlight Products Inc. (Tustin, Calif., LED lighting solutions provider) and Ceramics Process Systems Corp. (CPS, Chartley, Mass., metal-matrix composite components manufacturer) have entered into an exclusive strategic relationship to develop semiconductor-based lighting systems.

Business Briefs:

VM+SD magazine (Cincinnati leading magazine for retail designers and store display professionals) has announced it will serve as retail design media sponsor of the inaugural LightShow/West 2003. The lighting trade show and conference will be held September 24-25 in Atlanta. For more information, visit www.lightshowwest.com.

Transformit (Gorham, Maine, tension-fabric structure design, manufacturing and rental company) has been recognized with an Export Achievement certificate from the U.S. Department of Commerce.

Fasteners for Retail (FFr, Cleveland custom and stock merchandising products and display accessories manufacturer) has announced the retirement of its founder, Gerald Conway. In 1999, Conway sold the company, but remained as chairman emeritus.

The International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD, Chicago architectural lighting design trade organization) has inducted Gary Gordon into the IALD College of Fellows. Gordon is founder and principal lighting designer of Gary Gordon LLC in New York.

The Sherwin-Williams Co. (Cleveland paint, stains and coatings manufacturer and distributor) has developed a new web site for design professionals at www.bluebolt.com to search and specify Sherwin-Williams interior colors. The site features a library of more than 50 brands of commercial finishes.
