Management Changes:

The Container Store (Dallas) has appointed Sharon Ellis cfo and promoted Mona Williams to vp, buying; Peggy Doughty to vp, visual merchandising; and Lucy Witte to vp, marketing.

Alcan Inc. (St. Louis manufacturer of substrates for the graphic display market) has named James Burr vp, business development Asia/Pacific and China for its Alcan Composites Business unit and Brendan Cooper president of its PMU Display & Graphics Arts Americas unit.

Bruck Lighting Systems (Tustin, Calif.) has promoted Ken Esterly to national sales director and appointed Reshma Madnani as its representative, regional showroom sales.

Horton Lees Brogden Lighting Design (New York) has named Angela McDonald a senior principal at its San Francisco office, John Dunn a principal at its Los Angeles office, Carrie Knowlton an associate at its New York office and Frank Gerardo an associate at its Los Angeles office.


Mergers and Acquisitions:

Cubellis Associates (Boston architecture and engineering firm) has merged with Mann Gin Dubin & Frazier Ltd. (Chicago architectural firm) to form Cubellis MGDF.

Peter Drey + Co. (Atlanta architecture and design firm) has joined GreenbergFarrow (Atlanta architecture and engineering firm) to form GreenbergFarrow/Peter Drey Urban Design Studio.

Business Briefs:

The Festival Cos. (Los Angeles shopping center developer) is working on the following projects in the Los Angeles area: Leimert Plaza, a 6000-square-foot multi-tenant retail building; Del Amo Metro, a 4000-square-foot multi-tenant retail center; Del Amo Square, a 6700-square-foot retail and restaurant center; Union Square, a 3500-square-foot retail strip center; Venice & Lincoln, a 22,000-square-foot mixed-use property that will include 3000 square feet of retail; National & Overland, a mixed-use development with 3000 square feet of retail; and Moody Retail, a 4800-square-foot neighborhood center.

The Association for Retail Technology Standards (ARTS, Washington, D.C.) has released a new IXRetail XML schema to enable retailers to maintain and communicate store-level inventory data. The new schema, the 11th standard XML schema developed by ARTS, is intended to aid retailers in maintaining and communicating inventory by store location to support e-commerce and in-store sales.

nParallel Inc. (Minneapolis brand communication, merchandising strategy and display agency) created a 20-foot-by-20-foot tradeshow display for Graco Inc. for the recent Association of Woodworking & Furnishing Suppliers Fair.

WarmlyYours (Buffalo Grove, Ill., manufacturer of radiant floor-heating systems) announced that its co-founder and general manager, Georges Selvais, was honored at a recent dinner in Chicago in recognition of his 10 years of contributions to the advancement of floor-warming technologies.


Awards:

The following companies won top awards in Lighting for Tomorrow's 2005 Design and Technology Competition: Lithonia Lighting (Conyers, Ga.), grand prize, indoor fixture family, for its Ferros line; American Fluorescent Corp. (Waukegan, Ill.) grand prize, outdoor fixture family, for its Eureka line, and grand prize, technical innovation, for its Chablis-Soleil dimming system for fluorescent lighting; and Justice Design Group, second place, indoor fixture family, for its Windows Collection. Honorable mentions went to Fire & Water Lighting (New York) for use of sustainable materials; and to Good Earth Lighting (Wheeling, Ill.) for functionality.

Lighthouse Technologies (Irvine Calif., LED screen manufacturer) received a highly commended award for Exhibition Stand Design at the recent IBC 2005 in Amsterdam.
