Frederick’s of Hollywood Shuttering All Stores

Frederick's of Hollywood Group Inc. (Los Angeles) announced Friday the closing of all of its stores and its intent to move forward only as an online retailer.

In 2014, Frederick's operated 94 stores in addition to its catalog business and web portal, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Founded in the post-war pin-up era in the 1940s, Frederick's of Hollywood has been eclipsed in recent decades by the popularity of Victoria’s Secret (Reynoldsburg, Ohio), which, according to observers, made the Frederick’s brand seem stale and dated. The company launched a catalog business in the 1960s, followed by widespread store openings in shopping malls. Struggling, Frederick's declared bankruptcy in 2000, emerged from it in 2003, and went public in 2006.

In 2013 Frederick's was purchased by a consortium that includes HGI Funding (New York) and some of its own shareholders.
