Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Markets Inc. (El Segundo, Calif.) has stepped up its expansion plans with the announcement of an additional 10 locations in Arizona.

The new-concept food retailer, a subsidiary of Tesco plc (Cheshunt, U.K.), opened three new Arizona locations this week – in Phoenix, Mesa and Gilbert – and how has 58 markets operating throughout Southern California, Arizona and Nevada. The company originally announced plans for 27 stores in the Phoenix Valley alone, according to the East Village Tribune in Phoenix, but will increase that number to 37.

Tesco says it has invested $2 billion over five years to develop the concept, smaller (roughly 10,000 square feet) than the typical supermarket offering what is has promoted as “a faster, easier shopping experience” with prepared meals, produce and national brand products.

“The response from our new neighbors has been fantastic,” said ceo Tim Mason. “We are excited to bring fresh, wholesome food at affordable prices to even more neighborhoods in Arizona.”
