Harris Teeter's Private Expansion

Harris Teeter, the Matthews, N.C.-based supermarket chain, has announced it is expanding its private-label line of Premier Selection products to replace several products previously available under the President's Choice label. The launch marks the end of the offering of President's Choice (which is a licensed product provided by Loblaw International of Canada) in Harris Teeter stores. Premier Selection is a Harris Teeter proprietary brand. The transition to Premier Selection, which began this month, will be completed in April.

Harris Teeter was recently recognized as Retailer of the Year in the supermarket channel by the Private Label Manufacturer's Association for its brand successes (based partly on the successful launch of the HT Trader product line last year).

Harris Teeter is one of the 50 largest supermarket chains in the U.S. with 160 stores in North and South Carolina, Virginia, Georgia, Tennessee and Florida, and 2000 sales of $2.3 billion.
