Opened in May of this year, the new store in the Mission Bay district of San Francisco is the first retail presence for Healthy Spot outside of the Los Angeles area. Healthy Spot is a chain of pet stores based in Southern California that offers pet retail, dog daycare and grooming in colorful settings. Each location of the store strives to build local pet communities by offering community-related experiences within the store.
The San Francisco store, with an eighty-foot long frontage, embraces the brand’s design identity while still referencing its location and acknowledging the building’s immediate surroundings and the core community of largely millennial professionals that reside in the neighborhood.
“We are thrilled to be opening a store in San Francisco's newest neighborhood and to return to the city where Mark and I developed the concept for Healthy Spot,” said Co-Founder Andrew Kim
Spread across a large retail area on a corner location of a mixed-use building, the airy and well light interior showcases the products and services in a double-height space with floor-to-ceiling windows.
Sat Garg, Creative Director of AkarStudios comments: “We took inspiration from the repurposed buildings in downtown San Francisco to create a visually enticing interior of exposed concrete ceilings, floors, and mechanical services for this location.”
Similar to the brand’s stores in Los Angeles, the new retail offering celebrates colorful interiors and custom designed display units for displaying the larger variety of treats, toys, accessories and organic foods that the brand offers. Alongside the main retail space are the in-store day care for pets and a full service grooming salon.
The day care space is specially designed for smaller dogs and is made to be fully visible from the outside. Adorning the day care area is a signature patch of green turf with a symbolic fire-hydrant. Featuring a distinctive green color wall palette, the grooming salon has a series of styling stations for offering a variety of spa treatments and grooming services.
The new Healthy Spot makes a welcoming addition to San Francisco’s Mission Bay district with a community-focused retail scene. AkarStudios provided architectural, interior design, lighting design, and graphic design services to create this new retail presence in San Francisco.
