In the Navy

Gap Inc. (San Francisco) has promoted Lee Bird to coo of the company's domestic Gap division and has hired former Kohl's executive Patti Johnson to succeed him as cfo of the Old Navy division.

Bird, will report to Gap president Gary Muto. Before joining the company, he had held senior finance positions at Gateway Inc., Allied Signal Inc. and Ford Motor Co. Johnson, who held senior finance positions for The Disney Store Inc. and Family Restaurants Inc., will report to Old Navy president Jenny Ming and to Gap Inc. cfo Byron Pollitt.

Johnson had been cfo of Kohl's Corp. (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) for nearly two years. She had resigned earlier this week for what the retailer said were “personal reasons, as her family plans to move to California.” Kohl's said that on an interim basis its financial organization will report directly to coo Arlene Meier, who had been cfo before Johnson.

Bird succeeds Ron Beegle, who is leaving the company. Since joining Gap Inc. in 1996, Beegle had held senior management positions in the Banana Republic, online and Gap divisions. He had been coo of the Gap division since June 2001.
