The Institute of Store Planners will present its annual ISP/VM+SD International Store Design Awards in New York on Jan. 13, 2003.
Russell Sway of Atlanta, ISP International president, announced that the event will take place (as last year) at the city's Puck Building, 295 Lafayette St., from 6:30 – 10:30 p.m. In addition to the presentation of the 32nd annual awards, including the much-prized store of the year, the event will include the annual Innovation in Lighting Awards from Philips Lighting and induction of the next class of ISP Retail Design Legion of Honor winners.
Sway and Steve Kaufman, editor of VM+SD magazine, will co-host the evening. Though unrelated, the event will again occur during National Retail Federation's annual convention in New York.
Last year, ISP and VM+SD gave their highest honor to E*TRADE for the financial services company's new flagship store in New York, designed by Retail Planning Associates (Columbus, Ohio). Another 20 retailers and designers won awards in specific categories. In addition, 10 industry notables were honored by ISP for lifetime achievement in the first Legion of Honor ceremonies: Barbara D'Arcy, former director of creative services at Bloomingdale's; Bob Daggett, founder of Daggett Architects (Los Angeles); Ed Hambrecht and Jim Terrell, co-founders of Hambrecht Terrell International (HTI, now FRCH, Cincinnati); Lawrence Israel of Copeland, Novak, Israel and Ken Walker, former ceo of The Walker Group (both now Walker Group/CNI); Raymond Lowey of Raymond Lowey/Snaith; Dudley Pope, former senior vp of store design and visual merchandising at Rich's, Atlanta (now a division of Federated Department Stores); Dominick Segrete of Tucci Segrete & Rosen (New York); and Robert Young of Robert Young Associates (Dallas).
