The 2001 ISP/VM+SD International Retail Store Design Awards will be presented during a black tie [optional] 40th anniversary dinner in New York on Jan. 14, 2002.
The ceremony, co-sponsored by the Institute of Store Planners and VM+SD magazine, will take place at the Skylight Ballroom of New York's historic Puck Building (295 Lafayette Street). It will be held during the annual National Retail Federation convention, which will take place at New York's Jacob K. Javits Convention Center Jan. 13-16, 2002.
More than 155 entries from retailers and design firms around the world are competing for top honors in 17 categories, ranging from full-line new and remodeled department stores to several categories of specialty stores to concept shops, restaurants, food courts, service retailers and mall kiosks. In addition, one retail project is annually chosen as Store of the Year by a panel of judges from within the industry. The 2000 winner was the David Jones store in Adelaide, South Australia, designed by Dallas-based Robert Young Associates. Other recent winners have included Cortefiel in Madrid (1999), designed by Point Design, New York; Holt Renfrew in Toronto (1998), designed by Yabu Pushelberg, Toronto; and REI in Seattle (1997), designed by Mithun Partners, Seattle.
Another feature of the January dinner in New York will be ISP's first annual Retail Design Legion of Honor, lifetime achievement awards presented to “industry giants whose retail design concepts have shaped our culture and profession over the past 40 years.” ISP is celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2002.
