J. Crew Group Inc. (New York) is headed for the borough of Brooklyn for the first time.

According to Women’s Wear Daily, the retailer has leased a 2400-square-foot, two-level store at 151 Court St., between the Brooklyn Heights and Cobble Hill neighborhoods. The company expects the store to open in early 2014.

“We’ve been looking for a while, but we wouldn’t compromise the location,” Crew chairman and ceo Millard Drexler told WWD. “When this became available, we decided we really love the spot. It was right and that’s why [we leased it]. We’d rather take the time with the location instead of just finding any location.”

The Crew store on Court Street near Pacific Avenue is a block away from a Barneys New York Co-Op on Atlantic Avenue. Otherwise, apart from American Apparel and a few other national chains, most of the stores in the area are local boutiques.
