JCPenney Delays Store Closures

JCPenney (Plano, Texas) announced that the 138 stores that were slated to close in mid-June will now be open a couple more weeks. Those stores will instead close July 31.

The company said the delay is attributed to better-than-expected sales and traffic that these stores have experienced since the company announced the locations that would be closing.

The retailer first announced in February that it would close up to 140 stores, and the following month, it identified the store locations slated to close. It had planned to begin liquidating those stores on April 17, but has now pushed that date back to May 22, reports The Telegraph.
