J.Crew Eyes International Expansion

As part of its plans for international expansion, J.Crew Group Inc. plans to open its first Canadian store in August at the Yorkdale Shopping Centre in Toronto. The 5000-square-foot space will sell only women’s apparel and is the first of 25 to 30 more locations planned for Canada, according to Women’s Wear Daily.

The New York-based clothing retailer is also looking to expand in the U.K. and China.

“We are exploring partnerships in China, and we are also exploring some Japanese relationships,” says Millard “Mickey” Drexler, J.Crew chairman and ceo, in a Women’s Wear Daily article. “We want to grow profitably and with the right integrity. We are not trying to do it fast or formulaically.”
