Jo-Ann Stores Inc. (Hudson, Ohio) is promoting its chief operating officer Travis Smith to president at the end of the month. Smith will retain the coo title and its responsibilities, which include overseeing marketing, merchandising, sourcing, inventory management, supply chain and store operations, while taking over as president.

He joined the company in July 2006 as the executive vp, merchandising and marketing, and has served as coo since February 2009.

'”The promotion of Travis acknowledges the outstanding business results our company has achieved under his inspired leadership,”' current Jo-Ann president and ceo Darrell Webb said in a statement.

Webb, who previously worked with Smith at Fred Meyer, will remain ceo and chair of the board of directors.
