With competitors such as Walmart leaving the fabric and crafts niche, Jo-Ann Stores have a lot of open playing field. The Hudson, Ohio-based chain is capitalizing with the opening of more than 20 stores this year and projections for even faster development in 2010, reports Crittenden Research. More than 30 stores are scheduled to be remodeled.
“As more consumers turn to sewing and crafting during these economic times, we’re remodeling stores that offer the wide array of fabrics and sewing items in an easy-to-shop location,” said Darrell Webb, chairman and ceo, Jo-Ann Stores, Inc., in a corporate statement. The remodeling campaign will bring a new look to the stores with expanded craft, floral and seasonal and finished home décor products. Design changes will include brighter layout and an updated layout. More than 180 store optimization projects will have been completed by year’s end.
